Frequently asked questions

What the words on a results page mean, how following works, and how to tell us when something is wrong.

Fans and spectators

Why does one class say "Champion" and another "1st"?

A championship or final awards titles: Champion, Reserve Champion, then Top 10 for 3rd to 10th.

A class that is not a championship awards placings: 1st, 2nd, 3rd and on. At a Class A show those classes often qualify horses for a championship later in the show, which then awards the titles.

What does "Adv" mean?

Adv means the entry advanced: it was called back from a qualifier, semi-final or elimination to the next round. It is a call-back, not a placing, so 1st and 8th called back both read Adv.

When the judges did place a qualifying round in order, the round shows 1st, 2nd and on instead.

What is the difference between "Competed" and "Unplaced"?

  • Competed: the horse showed in a championship or final but finished past the Top 10, or it showed in a qualifying round and did not make the next one.
  • Unplaced: the horse showed, but the results gave it no placing at all.

Why do some finals award Gold, Silver and Bronze?

Some shows' finals award medals rather than titles: Gold, Silver and Bronze for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, then 4th and on as placings.

What do "Complete", "In Progress" and "Not Started" mean?

  • Complete: the class has finished and its final results have posted.
  • In Progress: some results have posted, but the final results have not.
  • Not Started: nothing from the class has posted yet.
  • Not yet posted, beside a section: that section's results have not posted yet.

Each class also shows how long ago its results posted.

What do the section names and codes mean (CLS, CH, SFF, FNL, I, A)?

Each section of a class is one round, named by a code:

Code Shown as What it is
CLS Class A class shown once, with no rounds. It awards 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
CH Championship A Class A show's championship: Champion, Reserve Champion, Top 10.
SFF, FNL Semi-final/Final, Final A national final: Champion, Reserve Champion, Top 10, or Gold, Silver, Bronze at a show that awards medals.
SF, A–E Semi-final, Section A, B… A national semi-final, or an elimination at a Class A show.
I–X Preliminary I, II… A national qualifying round.

The entries called back from a semi-final or qualifier read Adv, unless the judges placed the round in order: then it prints 1st, 2nd, 3rd. A Class A elimination never places anyone, so every entry that moves on reads Adv.

Why does a Class A elimination show no ribbon?

An elimination (for example Section A and Section B of a big Scottsdale championship) places nobody. It only names who advances to the final, so every entry that moved on reads Adv and earns no ribbon.

What is "All-time #2" next to a horse or exhibitor?

It is the horse's or exhibitor's rank by championship wins in that class, counted across every show we hold. Only the top five are marked, and it takes at least two wins to be ranked. The stamp links to the class's all-time leaders.

How do I find my classes at a show?

Open the show and type your back number in the Back # box, then press Find my classes. You get that horse's page at the show, with its classes and placings.

What can I follow?

With an account you can follow a horse, an exhibitor, an owner, a breeder, a class or a whole show. What you follow appears on My show for each show where it competes.

Corrections and your data

A result looks wrong. How do I tell you?

Send it through the contact form with the show, the class and what you think it should say. A photo of the posted results sheet helps.

For a horse's details (its name, breeding or owner), press Edit beside the field on the horse's page to suggest a change.
